Styling scissors & thinning scissors for dogs to thin the coat

Styling scissors and thinning scissors for dogs are used whenever the animal's coat or undercoat needs to be thinned. Cutting the coat naturally creates a lighter, more voluminous coat. These scissors can also be used to trim only tangles, not the entire coat.

Dog thinning scissors are double-edged. The fine, sharp teeth on dog thinning scissors are slightly offset from the upper to the lower blade, so only a portion of the hair is cut. Generally, dog thinning scissors trim approximately 30% of the coat. Since the entire coat is never cut, these scissors are also called thinning scissors. Thinning creates soft contours and precisely cut transitions.

Dog trimming scissors, on the other hand, have one serrated edge and the other is smooth. These scissors trim approximately 50% of the coat. These scissors are used for trimming transitions—for special effects—but also for structuring the coat.

Especially on warm days, it is important to reduce the weight of the fur and keep the animal's hair short.
